Making time for rest...

I know, you might be reading the title and thinking, the year just started, rest? There is no time for rest and I completely understand that thought process. I understand that it is a privilege and luxury to make time to rest, time to unplug and time to just be present.
As someone who teaches in a classroom full time and runs her own business helping others empower themselves in their spiritual journeys, I used to struggle with this concept. If I was awake I felt like I always needed to be working, I did not come from a wealthy family or a middle class family, I started working at 12 and had my first part time job at 14. Work was part of our survival, if we had any goals for our futures my sisters and I were raised that we would need to provide for ourselves. Not because my parents refused, but because it just was not in the budget.
Now at 37, work is still high on my list of things to do, but I am very blessed that whether I find my self in the classroom or in the studio I am happy.
In saying that there are things I had to really focus on last year, saying no, finding time for my own practice and finding moments to rest. I would not change anything that I have been building, but I know that finding time for my own life has made me a better person in all areas of my life.
My focus for what I want to offer this year is finding more moments of rest for my students, starting with Yoga Nidra on January 15h at The Aura House at 7:00pm and Reiki Restorative January 29th at 7:00pm.
Yoga Nidra is known as yogic sleep, the class is about an hour with time to settle and share weaved in. You are guided on a journey of the senses, allowing yourself to unwind, relax and reconnect with yourself. If sleep is a priority to you, this practice is for you. If finding time to rest this might be the perfect way to weave it into your schedule. All you need is comfy clothes, layers and your mat (some students have been known to show up in their pjs) Currently this is an in person event but if virtual is something you crave let me know.
Here is to a year of beautiful experiences that sooth our souls.
